Eating Disorders + Body Image
Eating disorders are characterized by unhealthy eating habits and distorted thoughts or perceptions relating to body weight, shape, and/or food. The three most common types of eating disorders are: Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Binge Eating Disorder.
Body image concerns often manifest as negative and unrealistic perceptions of one's physical appearance, leading to feelings of dissatisfaction, shame, and self-consciousness. Individuals with body image disturbance may or may not engage in unhealthy behaviors, including crash dieting, excessive exercise, or body comparisons.
